Sand Bear, Sand Bear, What Do You See?

DATE: 12/10/19

QIC: Chappie

A dirty dozen PAX won THAT FIRST BATTLE, gave their fartsack a beatdown, and posted for the first beatdown of the week on an amazing 63 degree day in December!

If you can’t figure out the beatdown from the title, then read on. If you have children at home, you get the reference. If you were 1 of the 12 HIM who posted, then you know…

WARM-O-RAMA:

  • Disclaimer given
  • SSH – 18 IC (Because many men are 18″ from life eternal)
  • Swartzjacks – 10 IC (Because, well, it’s the 10th of December)
  • Sealjacks – 10 IC
  • Crab Flippers – 10 IC…Nice and slow for full effect
  • Patty Cake Merkins – 10 OYO (w/partner)
  • Bolt 45 – No complaint breaks in between – Squats: 15 – Top to half, 15 – Half to bottom, 15 – Top to bottom

THE THANG:

PAX stayed paired up, each pair retrieved a 40# sandbag and lined up at the edge of the Grace Church field. Approximately 150 yards in length, PAX alternated between doing 10 Burpees & the Sand Bear Drag (planked over the sandbag, PAX Bearcrawled and pulled the sandbag forward) while advancing the entire length of the field. “Sand Bear, Sand Bear, what do you see? I see the opposite end of the field looking at me.”

  • Partner 1: 10 Burpees
  • Partner 2: Sand Bear Drag
    • Swap, rinse & repeat as necessary

To return from opposite end of the field, PAX swapped out from 10 Apollo Ohno’s to Burpees while advancing the length of the field in return. “Sand Bear, Sand Bear, what do you see? I see the opposite end of the field looking at me.”

  • Partner 1: 10 Apollo Ohno’s
  • Partner 2: Sand Bear Drag
    • Swap, rinse & repeat as necessary

————————-

Back in the AO parking lot, PAX circled up for the day’s 3rd F Message:

(Source: Adapted from F3 Nation QSource Nov. 20)

COMMITMENT – Unwavering Loyalty To The Group And Unflinching Determination To Accomplish It’s Mission

Loyalty requires abandonment of self

How important is commitment to you?

Are you someone who values loyalty and follow-through? When things get tough, are you in the habit of standing firm? Or do you have a tendency to compromise your level of commitment or even quit? More specifically, how committed are you to your team? Is your support solid? Is your dedication undeniable?

WAYS to improve your level of commitment . . .

1) TIE COMMITMENTS TO YOUR VALUES.
Because your values and your ability to fulfill your commitments are closely related, take some time to reflect on them.

First, make a list of your personal and professional commitments. Then try to articulate your core values.

Once you have both lists, compare them. You will probably find that you have commitments unrelated to your values. Reevaluate them. You will also find that you have values that you are not living out. Commit yourself to them.

2) TAKE A RISK
Being committed involves risk. You may fail. Your teammates may let you down. You may discover that fulfilling your goals doesn’t give you the results you desire. But take the risk of committing anyway. George Halas, former owner of the NFL Chicago Bears, asserted, “Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.”

3) EVALUATE TEAMMATES’ COMMITMENT
If you find it difficult to commit in particular relationships and you cannot find a reason for it in yourself, consider this: you cannot make a commitment to uncommitted people and expect to receive a commitment from them (Emphasis added). Examine the relationship(s), team, group to see whether YOU are reluctant because the potential recipient is uncommitted (maybe even untrustworthy).

4) INCREASE YOUR LEVEL OF COMMITMENT AND STAND FIRM ON MATTERS RELATED TO YOUR VALUES
Loyalty is firm, and constant support and allegiance manifested, through the subordination of one’s own well-being to the Prosperity of the Group. A Loyal person puts the interest of his Group and the needs of its Members before his own. In his decision making, he is concerned first with the impact a course of action will have on the Group and only secondarily upon himself. His relationship with his Group and its Members is that of a fiduciary, in that he is charged with a special duty of Trust that obligates him to safeguard the groups Prosperity in everything he does.

DAILY SCRIPTURE

Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.

Proverbs 16:3
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

1 Kings 8:61
Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day

Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men

————————-

Next PAX circled up with sandbags & bricks: 1 PAX on Sandbag, 1 PAX on a brick, sandbag, brick, sandbag, brick, etc. (you get the idea). PAX rotated counter-clockwise around the circle alternating between Sandbags & Bricks:

  • Sandbags = 10 Sandbag Squats
  • Bricks = 10 Merkins (touch chest to the brick to work on full form)
  • Final stops of bags & bricks = 20 reps each
  • Total = 70 reps Sandbag Squats, 70 reps Merkins

One final COP: Al Gore for a couple of 10 Counts

With that, it was a wrap! Sand Bear, Sand Bear, what do you see? I see the end of the workout looking at me!

COT/BOM:

will the guy in dallas ever show up to an F3 workout?

4 strong at Carmel High this morning. Weather was gloomy in the distance but perfect on the field. I was honestly hoping for massive amounts of rain but it was great to have a day without rain given the past week of non-stop wetness. Nice breeze coming from the south… it was perfect. Some motivations of today’s work out came from Kobayashi (F3 Greenwood) who visited Monterey earlier in the year.

Q woke up at 5:15 today and watched some KSBW. Thought he saw Burgundy in one of the station advertisements. Q pondered why KSBW is both ABC and NBC…. hmmmm.

Q: Cleveland Rocks

Disclaimer given

Warmup:

Armies

Forward Arm Circles & Reverse

Front Arm Circles & Reverse

Over Head Arm Circles & Reverse

Cherry Pickers

Hill Billies

Gas Pumps… wait… Q didn’t want to get wet just yet so he cancelled Gas Pumps. It’s nice to be Q.

SSH

The thang:

Get brick…. thanks Sharkbait!

Form a rectangle with 1 Pax at each corner. Pax 1 – Does 10 curls and then Peter Parkers to Pax 2 who is holding a plank. Pax 2 departs with bear crawl 20 yards to Pax 3 who is doing squats. Pax 3 departs with crab walk 15 yards to Pax 4 who is doing LBCs. Thankfully Pax 4 dried out the turf and we all did our LBCs in that spot. Pax 4 runs to station 1 to do the cycle again. Keep this look for 20 minutes.

Run to back of school….

On your own: 30 burpees , 10 SSH,

30  Groiners, 10 ssh

30 jumps over curb (two count)….

Once complete catch up with last pax to help them complete the work out (Thanks Sharkbait for getting me to the finish on this one!)

Run back to field

Now team up in twos: Pax 1 starts on 300  plank jacks, 200 plank dips, 100  Makter n diase while  Pax 2 karaoke to 20 and does 10 monkey humpers then runs back to take over for Pax 1.

Time ran out so we didn’t quite finish the above. Monkey Humpers were interestingly difficult even at that low interval. The runs back were more like a mosey.

Put brick back – thanks This-One-Time

Announcements: Thursday at the Dustbowl. Check email for more details. Family event with the Ms as well.

F3 message Leadership

The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.”

– General Dwight D. Eisenhower

Let nothing be  done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3-4

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.

Proverbs 29:2

He also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds; From following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Psalms 78:70-72.

  • Words can be powerful, but only if you follow up their inspiration with action. Remember, a great leader requires more than a title — you need drive, creativity, and a willingness to learn. In any case being a leader requires great patience, an ability to learn, and the ability to stand firm on your decisions. A great leader accepts responsibility, is accountable.A great leader studies The Word of God and conciders it highly in His daily life. He is strong and courageous. Just like a Joshua Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP daily devotional

John Haggai defines leadership as, “the discipline of deliberately exerting special influence within a group to move it toward goals of beneficial permanence that fulfill the group’s real needs.” I feel that the most significant word in this sentence is ‘influence’ and so we can say in brief, “Leadership is Influence.” Growing up, the image I had of a leader was that of someone who headed an institution. But I soon realized that I was a leader in my home, in my church and in my friends’ circle because of the influence I exerted on these groups. As we go higher in our leadership position we influence more people. We can identify people as good or bad leaders depending on what kind of influence they exert. The recent ‘Arab Spring’ exposed so many leaders in the Middle East and Africa who exerted a bad influence on their countrymen.

Nehemiah is an example of an excellent leader. When it was reported to him about the miserable state of the Jerusalem wall, he was a captive in a foreign land. His immediate reaction was of great sorrow. But he also fasted and prayed, confessing the sins of the Israelites and asking for God’s guidance in his future endeavors. He saw the need and heard the call. He already had a good job of being the king’s cup bearer, but took the risk of pursuing a difficult task. He faced mockery but continued to deal with injustice. Indeed he motivated and gave leadership and direction to a hopeless and demoralized people. Nehemiah’s dependence on God and his positive influence on the people enabled them to rebuild the wall in fifty two days. Not only did he rebuild the wall he also made the people confess their sins and affirm their faith in God’s Law. The book of Nehemiah ends with a simple prayer, “Remember me with favor, O my God.”

When we look around us we will notice that people are looking for good leaders. Jesus was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes that “were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matt.9:36). Are we ready to be the godly influencers

Proverbs 11

Where there  is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there  is safety.

Proverbs 11:14 NKJV

Irish Road Bowling

PAX: Chairman, Chappie, Gump, Leatherman, Ruxpin, Semi, Summit

POSTED IN: : Lewes, Delaware

QIC: Wildwing

WARM UP: Side Straddle Hop x 21 IC, Windmills x 21 IC, Morrocan Night Clubs x 21 IC, Annie x 21 IC, Failure to Launch x 5 IC

The Thang: In small towns across Ireland, the sport of road bowling has a long history. Teams roll or throw a ball down the road, chase after it, and throw it again until you come to the next village.

Today, Lewes had its first practice session when the Pax sprinted after their ball down Second Street and stopped periodically to enjoy this routine:

Burpees x 5-10 IC, Alabama Ass Kickers x 5-10 IC, Boat And Canoe on command, Bobby Hurleys x10-20 IC, Three Amigos Circle Walk.

THIRD F: The Science of Charity: Modern research indicates that charitable acts and giving have both economic and psychological benefits for the giver.

… The Turtle Story: On his way to an important meeting, an F3 member decided to not crush a turtle sitting in the middle of the road. Instead, he pulled over, grabbed the turtle, and placed him safely in tall grass off the road. Turtle winks at F3 driver. Good vibes all around. Next to turtle is $82 in cash. Moral: Charity pays.

…Kitty Studies: members of group each given $100 and told they can either keep the money or contribute to kitty that their leader can share equally with everyone. Some folks pocket their $100. These individuals rarely chosen as the leader. Instead, the chosen leader is often the first person to put their $100 into the kitty. Moral: Charity creates leaders and / or leaders are charitable.
